Artist Statement

In the process of creating each painting, Diep paints representational images based on her meditation practice and transforms these images into abstract depictions of energy. As Diep sifts through her mental, emotional and spiritual states, she translates each state into an energy source that is expressed through the color and texture of each mark. The once representational images become more and more abstract as the painting comes closer to its completion.
In recreating the essence of mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual energy, Diep seeks to further investigate the different forms of energy between each element (i.e. air, water, earth, fire, wood, metal) by painting what she understands onto a found object.

The found object serves as a platform that further reinforces the overall energy of the painting itself. It also serves as a symbol of which the elements as a whole represent.

Flowstate (above) is the first painting in Diep's series: "Energy Between Elements".
